Thank you

Today I got a personalised email from David Borrow's PA, my MP, thanking me for my message about climate control!

Week 8: Trash toxic waste...

This week I was asked to join a campaign group to stop toxic waste being dumped in the UK.
A topic that had a lot of media coverage in 2003, but today there are other priorities on the Friends of the Earth website, which I was directed to.

As an aside, the web address is quite amusing and I wonder if they thought about it when they bought it - www.foe.org.uk - which are they friends or foes?! It could be that they did and thought it was memorable, or it could be that it was an unfortunate mistake on the part of the marketing department. Lesson to be learned - really think about your web address!

Anyway, back to the task in hand. Well I was asked to support FOE, and so I have today sent an email to my local MP as part of The Big Ask campaign to support a strong climate bill and I have asked Gordon Brown to increase the incentives for people to buy less polluting cars.

Week 7: Plant a plant...

This week is all about combatting the increase of carbon dioxide by planting plants/trees.
As it is inclement weather I have been advised by my greenfingered grandad that the heathers I want to plant in my front garden may not survive so I have postponed this for about a month.
It doesn't have to be plants for the garden, they could be house plants but if we have any more our house will be classed as a jungle!
If you can't do either, 52 weeks suggests the following websites www.plantlife.org.uk , www.treesforlife.org.uk (quoted in 'on a roll!' ) and www.woodland-trust.org.uk
These are all super sites, which are inviting and make you want to stay and browse.

And talking of inclement weather, we have had some rain so I think I will be able to water my houseplants from the water butt this weekend!

Week 6: Get in some guilt free treats for Friday night...

I actually did this last night because I couldn't wait any longer - I popped out, as directed, and bought a bar of Fair Trade chocolate. It was lovely and felt good too!
I've saved half so am looking forward to my Friday night treat for being a good, environmentally friendly girl.

Back to Week 1

You may recall that week 1 was all about energy saving light bulbs and I committed to replacing old with better. Well the first bulb went the other day and today I went to Tesco - given they are cutting prices on their environmentally friendly products - and bought my first energy saving light bulb. See, their advertising worked against the web address I gave - you've always got to be at the forefront of people's minds!
